Murder in the Academy is a television film from the crime series Tatort . It is the seventh case of the Düsseldorf investigators Flemming, Koch and Ballauf and the 290th crime scene sequence. The report produced by Westdeutscher Rundfunk was broadcast for the first time on April 24, 1994 on Das Erste . Flemming and his team deal with the murder of a bisexual art student.
action
The head of the plaster workshop of the Düsseldorf Art Academy , Heinz Joesges, discovers the art students Till Bornemann and Pia Erzberger in intimate togetherness at a party. Joesges leaves the institute horrified, and the next day he learns that he has tested positive for HIV.
Later, Till is murdered by a masked man in the academy. Pia, who was Till's model and who was wearing a plaster mask during the murder, tells Joesges and the police that it must have been fellow student Gereon Müller, because Till addressed his killer by name. The officers arrest Gereon, who has no alibi, but vehemently denies the act. Chief Inspector Flemming has serious doubts about Gereon's culprit, as neither fingerprints on the weapon nor footprints at the crime scene match him. Also, it doesn't make sense that he let the ear witness to the murder live after his name was mentioned by Till.
Further investigations reveal that Till was both Pia's friend and had homosexual contacts. He wasn't very popular with his fellow students because of his condescending manner. Flemming happened to meet the homosexual Gerd "Greta" Kosminski at the academy, who was just going to see Joesges. Finally Joesges joins them, the two claim to be old pub friends. Joesges also denies having had an intimate relationship with Till, but goes to Kosminski's gay bar. Flemming releases Gereon, and an AIDS test on the corpse shows that Till was HIV positive.
Pia visits Gereon in the studio and tries to force a confession from him, but Gereon suspects that the murderer must have used a mask he had made. Traces at the crime scene confirm to the police that the killer actually wore the mask. Although Joe's fingerprints are found on Gereon's mask, the latter explains that he had touched the mask on the public tour of the academy the evening before. The officers inform Pia about Till's HIV infection. She is shocked because she had unprotected intercourse with Till and is also being tested.
Flemming seeks out Kosminski, who finally admits to having had a relationship with Joesges, but does not tell Flemming that he knew about Joesges' relationship with Till. When Flemming suggested that Till was HIV positive, Kosminski was shocked. Meanwhile, Flemming's colleague Koch learns that Till knew about his HIV infection through a test, and for reasons of data protection she does not receive any information about Joesges. She also determines that Joesges' account was hopelessly overdrawn. Because of Till's luxurious home furnishings, officials assume that Till took advantage of Joesges financially.
Meanwhile, Flemming interrogates Kosminski and for a short time leaves him alone with Gereon, whom he has also ordered. Gereon tells Kosminski that he is to testify as a witness regarding Joesges, and pretends to be a homosexual acquaintance of Joesges. Kosminski pricks up his ears and believes that he has another rival in Gereon. He is now ready to work with the officers and lure Joesges into a trap. The two meet, Joesges confesses to Kosminski about the murder, he was fleeced financially by Till, abandoned and infected with HIV. Meanwhile, Kosminski runs a tape on Flemming's instructions. When the officers come into the apartment, Joesges explains to Kosminski that Till was his only lover and that Flemming lied to him about Gereon, and Kosminski helps Joesges escape. The officers suspect Joesges in the art academy and go there, they can prevent Joesges from suicide at the last moment, Joesges finally confesses to the officers to the murder of Till. Meanwhile, Pia has found out that her HIV test was negative.
background
Gereon is arrested at work. It is shown with the waiter in the old town pub "Pille", Liefergasse 11. It is a real restaurant that existed here for many years (2018: "Holy Craft").
In the last scene, the inspectors leave the old town in the direction of Oberkasseler Brücke . In the background you can see the back entrance of the traditional house brewery "Im Füchschen" - back then with traditional white and red lettering. Shortly after the brewery was taken over by Peter König jr. In 1995, a modernized design in black and red was replaced, which can also be seen here today.
