Tatsuhiko Ito ( Japanese 伊藤 達 彦 Itō Tatsuhiko ; born March 23, 1998 in Hamamatsu ) is a Japanese long-distance runner .

Career

Ito attended high school in his native Hamamatsu and then began studying at Tokyo International University in 2016 . At first he performed inconspicuously in a national comparison, so in 2015 he achieved a best time of 14: 33.10 min in his last year of high school over 5000 meters and mastered the 10,000 meters in 29: 39.83 min as a student the following year. In 2017, he finished 45th in the Japanese University Championships in the half marathon with 1:04:13 h, and he also improved to 28: 46.74 min in the 10,000 meter run. Unlike in the previous year, he qualified with his university for the prestigious Hakone Ekiden at the beginning of 2018, in which he ran the fifteenth individual time on the second stage and finished 17th with his university in the overall ranking. After finishing 11th at the national half-marathon university championships in March with 1:04:09 h, he increased his best time over this distance to 1:03:30 h and over 10,000 meters to 28: 28.62 min in the second half of 2018. At Hakone Ekiden he improved again on the same stage as eleventh compared to his time of the previous year by 1:40 minutes, this time his university came in 15th.

In March 2019, Ito drew national attention with third place in the half marathon university championships in 1:01:52 h. He was then nominated for the mid-year Universiade in Naples , where he finished third over the same distance behind his compatriots Akira Aizawa and Taisei Nakamura and won gold in the team standings together with Aizawa and Nakamura. After a narrow improvement in his 10,000 meter best time in November to 28: 26.50 min, he came in at the beginning of the new year with his university this time in 5th place, to which he himself contributed as second behind the course record, Aizawa. Used again on the 23.1 km long second stage, it needed 1:06:18 h, which is almost four minutes faster than on its first appearance in 2018.

After graduating from university, he joined the company team at the Honda automobile group in 2020 .
