Event variants

The Imperial City Tattoo Expo 2019 in Aachen

While the early conventions were purely exhibitions and were almost exclusively attended by tattooists, the events since the 1990s have been more and more events for everyone. Musicians often perform and book readings take place.

At some conventions, tattoos are presented and awarded. Sina Minou , for example, appears at the Tattoo Convention in Dresden.

The Imperial City Tattoo Expo , which took place in Aachen for the fourth time in 2019, follows a completely “opposing approach and focuses on the medium of the tattoo itself”. The organizer of the Tattoo Expo is the tattoo artist Andreas Coenen, who has been running the tattoo studio The Sinner & the Saint in downtown Aachen since 1997 . The approximately one hundred and twenty international “world class” tattoo artists present offered “creative and high-quality work around the best possible customer service”. The curated supporting program in 2017 included an Ed Hardy exhibition and a lecture by the renowned art historian Ole Wittmann , who gave an insight into his work, “which is about securing the legacy of the tattoo icon Christian Warlich and his new book, the reproduction of a template album by the Hamburg tattoo artist Karl Finke , ”gave.
