Taurus - The Giant of Thessaly (original title: Taur, re della forza bruta ) is a mythological adventure film that Alberto Leonviola directed in Italy in 1962. The film, starring wrestler Joe Robinson , was first shown in German cinemas on October 25, 1963. Alternative title is Taurus - Wrath of the Gods .

action

2000 BC: The kingdom of Shrupuk is invaded by the Rixos warriors who kill the king, keep the inhabitants in dungeons as slaves and kidnap the king's two daughters, Jia and Tuja. The strong Taurus, a simple shepherd who knows the king's son-in-law, Syros, rushes to his aid and fights the Rixos. These can fix him first; he is to be given as husband to the Rixos queen Akiba.

Taurus manages to escape from captivity thanks to his powers, despite the measures of the cunning advisor of the Rixos, El Kab, and frees Jia and Tuja. When he, with the support of some rebels, kills the soldiers of the empire and Akiba falls from the throne, a volcano erupts and lets the Rixos empire and its villains become history. Syros turns out to be the real contender for the throne of the Rixos people.

criticism

The reviews were mostly negative to devastating: "The lack of imagination of the scriptwriters [...] is celebrating triumphs again", write Ronald M. Hahn , Volker Jansen and Norbert Stresau , the lexicon of international film describes the film as "" sandal film "from the Italian Film studio "Cinecittà", which once again offers an illogical and ridiculous adventure with a pseudo-historical background. ”; R. Tabes is annoyed: “There are numerous scenes of torture in the film that remind us of the recent past. What difference does it make for the normal visitor whether they take place in dark memory or in ancient slavery? "

Remarks

The field recordings took place in Yugoslavia ; Director Leonviola (who plays the role of the evil advisor himself) shot “Taurus” back-to-back (at the same time) with his Le gladiatrici .
