action
The taxi driver Mangal, called "Hero" by his friends, is a regular guest at a nightclub where the Anglo-Indian Sylvie , whom he adored, works as a cabaret dancer. One evening he saves the ambitious young singer Mala from harassment by two street thugs. She was on the way to the film music composer Ratanlal, who should help her with starting her career. Since they don't find Ratanlal, Mangal takes them in. In the course of time Mangal and Mala get closer, but as soon as visitors come, Mala has to dress up as a man. Mangal teaches their street jargon and other habits of the proletariat. The romance is disrupted by the activities of a criminal gang, including stealing Mangal's taxi when they need a vehicle to rob a bank. The gang ends up having a shooting with Mangal's friends in the nightclub.
