Tengger Cavalry is a folk metal band from New York City . They combine elements of classical Mongolian music with heavy metal influences. The name of their music is "Mongolian Folk Metal".
Band history
Tengger Cavalry was originally founded in March 2010 by Nature Ganganbaigal as a solo project. The band is named after the ancient Mongolian deity Tengri .
The first international response to the debut album Blood Sacrifice Shaman came from the German metal magazine Legacy , which was positively impressed. Even MTV and The Daily skirt and the China Radio International showed interest in the band.
In 2012, three more members joined the band. In the same year she released her second album Sunesu Cavalry . An article in the British magazine Terrorizer increased the band's international fame. The Metal Hammer described the album as "exotic and epic".
In 2013 Tengger Cavalry released her third album The Expedition , which was received by international music media, for example No Clean Singing and Folk-Metal.nl . She accompanied Turisas on their China tour.
In 2014 Tengger Cavalry released their fourth album Ancient Call . The album was recorded in China, but mixed in New York . Some magazines, including Metal Hammer and the music website Metal.de, saw their high demands on the album justified.
In 2015 the band released a new recording of their debut album Blood Sacrifice Shaman , with an expanded tracklist. This was recognized as the band's most successful album to date by magazines such as Metal Hammer , Revolver , and Chicago Reader .
On June 24, 2019, the band announced that their founder and frontman Nature Ganganbaigal passed away on June 13, 2019 for reasons unknown.
style
Tengger Cavalry write their texts in both Chinese and English . Their texts deal with cultural and historical aspects of the Mongolian people. The singing is mostly guttural .
