Erena Terakubo

Erena Terakubo (* 1992 in Sapporo ) is a Japanese modern jazz musician ( alto and soprano saxophone , flute , composition ) living in the United States .

Erena Terakubo began playing alto saxophone when she was nine. She was given the opportunity to take part in jazz workshops with musicians such as Herbie Hancock and Tiger Okoshi when she played in the Sapporo Junior Jazz Orchestra for a decade . In 2010 she recorded her debut album North Bird (King) in New York with Kenny Barron , Christian McBride , Lee Pearson and Peter Bernstein , which reached number 1 on the jazz charts in her home country and was awarded a gold record by the Swing Journal . In the same year she performed with Ron Carter , Omar Hakim and Will Boulware at the Tokyo Jazz Festival ; In 2011 her album New York Attitude followed with Kenny Barron, Ron Carter, Lee Pearson and Dominick Farinacci .

She then received a scholarship to study at Berklee College of Music in Boston. In 2013 she recorded her third album Burkina with Kenny Barron, Ron Carter, Jimmy Cobb and Lenny White ; In 2015 she moved to New York after completing her studies. In the same year the live album A Time for Love (CellarLive) was created, with David Hazeltine , David Williams and Lewis Nash . Since then she has appeared regularly in New York clubs such as Smalls , Zinc Bar , The Kitano and 55 Bar . In 2016 she belonged to the Fukushi Tainaka Quintet and in 2019 to the Brandon Sanders Quintet. In the field of jazz she was involved in six recording sessions between 2004 and 2015; In 2018, Little Girl Power appeared on King Records with her Japanese quartet .
