history

After the owner of the allodial estate Hermannseifen , Josef Karl Freiherr von Silberstein, above the castle at the confluence of the Luční potok ( Seifenbach ) in the Čistá ( Lauterwasser ) had built a schirting factory in 1834, he left the valley of the Lauterwasser in 1834 create a factory colony. In 1836 it was named Theresiental after his wife, Theresia Pulpan von Feldstein († 1839), and it grew rapidly. In 1843 there were already 25 houses in Theresienthal . The Catholic and Protestant parish was Hermannseifen. Until the middle of the 19th century, the colony always remained subordinate to the allodial estate Hermannseifen.

After the abolition of patrimonial Theresienthal formed from 1850 a district of the Hermannseifen community in the Hohenelbe / Vrchlabí district administration . In 1879 Adolf von Silberstein sold the Hermannseifen estate to Friedrich Wihard from Liebau in Silesia . He sold it to the textile manufacturer Johann Adam Kluge in 1880. After the establishment of Czechoslovakia in 1918, the place was assigned to the new judicial district of Arnau in 1922. In 1921, the Erste Böhmische Kunstseide-Fabrik AG Theresienthal established the first artificial silk spinning mill in Czechoslovakia in the valley above the colony. From then on, the place was divided into two settlements - Theresienthal I and Theresienthal II. The construction of the chemical factory had fatal consequences for the neighboring spa, and in 1922 the spa in the forest was stopped. As a result of the Munich Agreement , Theresienthal and Hermannseifen were annexed to the German Reich in 1938 and belonged to the Hohenelbe district until 1945 . After the Second World War, the place came back to Czechoslovakia. Immediately after the end of the war in 1945, a collection camp for the deportation of Germans from Okres Vrchlabí was set up in Theresienthal . In 1946 the place was given the Czech name Terezín. As a result of the expulsion of German residents, the number of residents fell sharply. The artificial silk factory was nationalized and became part of the Secheza Lovosice factory. After the Okres Vrchlabí was abolished, Terezín was assigned to the Okres Trutnov at the beginning of 1961. In the 1960s, the artificial silk factory was re-profiled into a manufacturer of rubber products for the automotive industry and has been trading as Rubena Rudník ever since. In 1980 the place lost its status as a district.
