The Tescio is a 20 km long river in Umbria , Italy .

course

The river , first mentioned as Tessium in 963, has its source on the Monte dei Cani mountain through the confluence of the Oppico and Trabocco streams at 511 meters above sea level near the Eremo delle Carceri and initially runs in a northerly direction. After about 2 km the river turns west at Piano della Pieve (also called Pian della Pieve ) after the inflow of the Marchetto near the Ponte Marchetto (also called Ponte dei Lupi ) and serves as the north-western border of the Parco del Monte Subasio nature reserve . The Tescio now flows through the Tesciotal (Valle del Tescio) and passes the site Ponte Grande , named after the bridge of the same name from 1469. It meets other historical bridges such as the Ponte di Annibale (which has since collapsed due to the 1997 earthquake) and the Ponte Dolci (originated in the Middle Ages). The river now runs north of the old town of Assisi below the Rocca Maggiore and the cemetery and here passes the Secondo Ponte dei Galli bridge (also Ponte Santa Croce or Santa Croce al Ponte dei Galli , named after the church of the same name), which was built from 1353 to 1357 originated. After the Santa Croce bridge, the Tescio turns west and a few hundred meters later passes the Ponte dei Galli bridge (also called Primo Ponte dei Galli ), which was built in 1193 and restored from 2008 to 2011.

The Tescio leaves the local area of Assisi northwest below the Basilica of San Francesco after the bridge Ponte San Vittorino (also called Vetturino ) , mentioned in documents in 1283 and rebuilt in 1514 , in a westerly direction and enters the municipality of Bastia Umbra . Here it flows into Bastiola shortly after the Ponte della Bastiola bridge, already mentioned in 1232 as Balìa Strate Pontis , at 206 meters above sea level in the Chiascio , which it serves as a left tributary.
