Tetraethylene glycol dimethyl ether is a chemical compound from the group of glycol ethers .

Extraction and presentation

Tetraethylene glycol dimethyl ether can be obtained by a Williamson ether synthesis of tetraethylene glycol with methyl chloride and alkaline hydroxides .

properties

Tetraethylene glycol dimethyl ether is a flammable, hardly inflammable, little volatile, colorless liquid with an ethereal odor, which is miscible with water.

use

Tetraethylene glycol dimethyl ether can be used as a coating material on glucose sensors and as an electrolyte in lithium-ion batteries. In addition, it is a suitable solvent for high temperature reactions due to its high boiling point. It is also used in the selective adsorption of proteins while promoting cell adhesion.
