The Teufelsbach is the right and southern source brook of the Gabelbach . It runs in the central Odenwald largely through the municipality of Mudau in the Neckar-Odenwald district in Baden-Württemberg and finally flows from the south in the area of Markt Kirchzell in the Bavarian district of Miltenberg together with the left Breitenbach .
geography
course
The Teufelsbach rises in Baden-Württemberg in the Neckar-Odenwald district a little southwest of Schloßau on the edge of the clearing island surrounding the place called Heumahdsbirken . He runs in a left curve through the village and then in a meadow hollow to the north. After the village's sewage treatment plant, he enters the wooded Devil's Blade , where he loses about 150 m in height over the next one and a half kilometers on a north-west course. After this steep section, the stream from the Gelmichsklinge runs to the right and it now flows flatter again in a wide, open floodplain on the bottom of its steep valley, which is wooded on the slopes. It reaches Ernsttal in a fork in the valley, at which the side valley runs from the Katzenloch from the southwest and where the L 2311 descends from the top of the Heidenberg pass and descends into the valley. This traffic axis, which is important for the Odenwald, uses the southwest running river axis of the Neckar tributary Itter in the south and the valley from Teufelsbach, Gabelbach and Mud in the north, which ultimately leads to the Main. The serpentine pass road attracts many motorcyclists in the good season. Then the stream continues north-northeast through Untertal and after another one and a half kilometers, less than three hundred meters of it last on Bavarian soil, joins the left Breitenbach to the Gabelbach, which then continues in the direction of Teufelsbach.
Catchment area
The Teufelsbach drains an area of 16.4 km² in the central Odenwald, which lies on the major watershed between the Main and Neckar , northwards towards the Main. The largest elevations in the catchment area follow one another on this watershed in the southwest and west against the competitor and Neckar tributary Itter ; the highest of these is in the Hohwald at 552.8 m above sea level. NN southwest of Waldleiningen. The route of the Neckar-Odenwald-Limes on the section between Würzberg and Oberscheidental also follows this natural dividing line . North of the catchment area border runs the other Gabelbach-Quellbach Breitenbach , northeast of it a smaller tributary of the upper Gabelbach. Beyond the northeast and eastern watershed is the immediate catchment area of the Mudbach called Upper Mud, in the southeast that of the Upper Elz , which strives back to the Neckar.
About three quarters of the area is forested, the majority of the land area belongs to the clearing island around Schloßau, plus a much smaller clearing around Waldleiningen Castle and floodplains in the valleys.
