Thallium (I) sulfide is an inorganic chemical compound of thallium from the group of sulfides .

Extraction and presentation

Thallium (I) sulfide can be produced by the reaction of thallium with sulfur

or by reaction of thallium ethoxide with hydrogen sulphide .

properties

Thallium (I) sulfide is a fine powder, deep black, which is practically insoluble in water. When rubbed, it smears like graphite. The compound begins to volatilize above 300 ° C. Thallium (I) sulfide has a trigonal crystal structure in the space group R 3 (space group no. 146) similar to the lead (II) iodide type with the lattice parameters a  = 12.150  Å and c  = 18.190 Å. Occurrence

Thallium (I) sulfide occurs naturally as the mineral carlinite .
