Thanried is first mentioned in 1110 as Taginisruith . Further mentions with the spelling Taginisreith or Taginisruit can be found in 1138 and 1155. The name is interpreted as clearing on the Tann or clearing settlement of a Tagino . Emperor Heinrich II transferred royal estates between Naab and the Bohemian border to the diocese of Bamberg as part of his settlement policy and rule development . Thanried is thus a Bamberg foundation.

In 1138 the Bamberg bishop Otto I. Thanried transferred it to the monastery under Regensburg along with other places in the Neukirchen-Balbini area . After initially belonging to the offices of Nittenau and Wetterfeld , Thanried was assigned to the district judge's office in Neunburg vorm Wald . Ecclesiastically, Thanried belonged to Neukirchen-Balbini, although there was interest in both the church in Fronau and in Penting, in Neunburg v. Wald and also after Stamsried passed. Municipality default Than Ried was connected and Hans Ried to 1978 as part of the administrative reform of Stamsried incorporated . This also resulted in a change of district affiliation from Schwandorf to Cham.

The history of the village of Thanried can only be traced selectively over the centuries:

In 1622 there were 4 farms, 2 estates and 1 Sölde in Thanried . In 1808 11 properties were mentioned.

Village chapel of Mary of Lourdes

In 1885 the Bishop of Regensburg asked for a building permit for a chapel in Thanried. The initiator was the farmer Georg Dirscherl, who thereby fulfilled the wish of his deceased cousin. This had saved a large part of the construction costs during his lifetime.

In 1884, after a founding meeting of the village members, it was decided to build a chapel and it was proposed to build this chapel in honor of the Mother of God of Lourdes . The construction of the chapel was completed between May 6, 1886 and July 27, 1886. The residents of Thanried performed manual and clamping services as well as numerous monetary donations for the construction and furnishing of the chapel.

The statue of the Mother of God of Lourdes was made by the Royal Bavarian Art Institute in Munich and first delivered to Neukirchen-Balbini in 1887. In October 1887 Pastor Sperl had eight young men from Thanried transfer them to the new chapel in a solemn procession . On the same day the chapel was consecrated by Pastor Sperl. The previously existing bell was moved from the emergency scaffolding to the chapel. A Way of the Cross was commissioned by Johann and Barbara Paulus, Thanried, and consecrated on the Kreuzberg in Schwandorf. A donation was also submitted, but was lost in the turmoil of inflation .

Outstanding events in the history of the chapel were when the new priest Georg Stelzer from Thanrieder gave the first blessing from the chapel , just as Primiziant Georg Nehmes had done before him in 1901. The interior painting was renewed in 1950 by the painter Ludwig Dieß. An electrical bell was installed in 1973. In 1976, a renovation was carried out with renewal of the external plaster and roof renovation. A new door was installed. The two windows were renewed in 1980.

The festive service for the centenary of the chapel building was celebrated in 1986.

Although the villagers have repeatedly financed the maintenance of the chapel with generous donations over the years, major interior and exterior renovations were necessary to maintain the chapel in the long term. In the spring of 1998, the village community came together under the leadership of Mayor Alfred Lang, Stamsried, and the joint decision was made to start the work required at short notice for the urgently needed interior renovation. This should be followed by an extensive exterior renovation of the chapel as well as the outdoor facilities and the surrounding area. After a few meetings and preliminary discussions, work began in the summer of 1998. Not only were 1366 hours worked, but material was also made available and grants and financial donations were made. On May 6, 1999, the Thanried chapel association was founded. On August 6th and 7th, 2000 a village festival was celebrated as part of the inauguration of the chapel and the surrounding area. A children's playground was built next to the village chapel . Other religious symbols of the place are the chapel Maria vom Guten Rat and seven field and court crosses that are around the village.
