Thawatchai Damrong-Ongtrakul ( Thai : ธวัช ชัย ดำรงค์ อ่อง ตระกูล , born June 25, 1974 in Krabi Province ) is a former Thai football player and current coach . He has been in charge of PT Prachuap FC since the beginning of 2017 .
Career
society
Thawatchai began his career in 1986 at Osotspa M-150 . He played a total of 252 games for the club and scored 60 goals. First he played at the club until 1999. He reached the 1999 Thai Cup final with the team . He then signed a two-year contract with the Sembawang Rangers in the Singapore S-League . He then moved to Tanjong Pagar United within Singapore . With either club he could not win a title or reach the final. He then returned to Thailand to his old club Osotspa M-150. With the Queen's Cup 2003 he won his first major title of his club career. In 2006 he went to Vietnam like so many Thai footballers . For one year he played for CLB Ðòng Nai in the second Vietnamese division. After only one year in neighboring countries, he moved back to Thailand again to his previous club. At the age of 42 he still had eight appearances for Osostpa in the Thai Premier League . After only one year again, he moved to the Thailand Division 1 League for FC Royal Thai Police , for which he only played one game. In 2009 he went a league lower, but back to his birthplace Krabi. There he was the captain of FC Krabi , which was founded in 2009 - in the new Regional League Division 2 . He made his comeback as a player in 2010. Due to the injuries of Pattaya United, who he coached, Thawatchai applied for a player's pass for the second half of the 2010 Thai Premier League. Against FC TTM-Phicht he switched himself on shortly before the end of the game.
National team
In 1998 he took part in the Asian Games with the national team. In the quarter-finals against South Korea , he scored the decisive goal with a free kick from 30 meters, which brought Thailand into the next round. It was the first time that Thailand could reach the semi-finals of the Asian Games. In 1999 he won the gold medal at the Southeast Asian Games . In the final against Vietnam , he scored 1-0 in the 39th minute.
Trainer
In late 2010 he left Pattaya United and took over Police United . He finished the 2011 season with his team in midfield. He was able to repeat this result in the following two seasons. In the 2014 season he was hired by Bangkok United , but left the club in the middle of the season to return to Police United. The club fought to stay in class. Thawatchai was released after a few weeks in August 2014. After the end of the season he became the head coach of Chainat FC and achieved relegation in the 2015 season. He then moved to Nakhon Pathom United in the second Thai division. In early 2017 he took over league rival PT Prachuap FC , with whom he was promoted to the first division at the end of the season. He finished the 2018 season with his team in sixth place.
