Johann Heuras (born October 8, 1957 in Amstetten - Preinsbach ) is an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and former teacher . Since 2015 he has been director of education for Lower Austria (since 2018; formerly state school board ).

From 1997 to 2011 he was mayor of St. Peter in der Au . From 2009 to 2011 he was regional councilor in the Lower Austrian regional government Pröll V , responsible for youth, education and sport. From 2011 to 2015 he was second president of the Lower Austrian state parliament .

Life

Heuras attended the Stiftsgymnasium in Seitenstetten and then studied mathematics, history and physics at the University of Vienna . From 1981 he taught at the HTL in Waidhofen an der Ybbs .

In 1991 he moved to the parish council of St. Peter in der Au and in 1995 took over the office of vice mayor and in that year was elected district chairman of the ÖAAB Amstetten. From 1997 until his election to the state government in February 2009, Heuras was mayor of the municipality. In 2006 he was also elected Vice President of the Association of Lower Austrian Municipal Representatives of the ÖVP. Between April 16, 1998 and February 26, 2009, Heuras was a member of the Lower Austrian State Parliament, where he held the position of health spokesman.

He was elected to the Lower Austrian provincial government on February 26, 2009 as part of the government reshuffle of the provincial government Pröll IV . Heuras took over the youth, education and sport department. On April 28, 2011, he resigned from the Pröll V state government , returned to the state parliament and was elected as the successor to Herbert Nowohradsky as its second president. His successor in the state government was Karl Wilfing .

From 2015 he was the official President of the Lower Austrian State School Council and therefore has the official title of Hofrat . In February 2018 he was appointed Education Director of Lower Austria by Federal Minister Heinz Fassmann and thus Austria's first Education Director.

He is married and has two children.
