The Aberlour’s ( spelling : The ABERLOUR’S ) is a German folk rock band that was founded in 1999 in Halle (Saale) . The name refers to Charlestown of Aberlour , a small town in Speyside , Scotland , and the Aberlour whiskey distillery there .
history
Founded in 1999 by Klaus Adolphi, the front man of the Horch group , and the violinist Steffen Knaul, the band initially toured as a duo, then with the drummer Matthias “Meff” Schimetzek. One of the first appearances was the support for Jethro Tull in Thuringia. The first album Waiting for Noah was recorded in this line-up in 2000 . From this time on, the artists called their music "Celtic Folk'n'Beat" and distinguished themselves from other bands of the genre mainly through almost exclusively their own song material, rock-jazzy playing style and unusual sounds. In 2002 the second album, Rich and Rambling, was released . At times, bassist Peter Häseler was a guest here.
From 2004 onwards, several extensive tours with various Irish & Celtic folk musicians , such as the London Lassies or the Geraldine McGowan Band, followed through the Magnetic Music agency . At that time the Aberlour's were already completed by the bassist Kai Büttner and the flutist Andreas Fabian (also from Horch). The third album The Huns Are Coming followed in 2005 with this line-up . In 2008, The Aberlour's played under the motto "Bridges to Classics" in fusion with Horch, in large orchestral arrangements with the Staatskapelle Halle and Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull) as soloists at the Handel Festival in Halle . In summer 2009 the fourth album Save the Last Drop was released . At the end of this year, founding member Steffen Knaul left the band for health reasons. He was replaced by the studied jazz violinist Valentin Gregor from Berlin. In 2011 a live DVD was created. The band played at festivals such as the Venner Folkfrühling and the Wacken Open Air , and again in 2014 at the Irish Heartbeat tour festival. In July 2015 the musicians released their fifth studio album Dayoodlo! - for the first time exclusively with his own compositions, after Andreas Fabian left at the beginning of the year and Steffen Thomas joined him on accordion and organ.
