Horch , also known as the Horch group , is a folk band that was founded in 1979 in Halle / Saale . In the GDR it was one of the most popular bands of this genre.
Band history
Horch was founded in 1979 as an amateur band. Five years later, the members became professional musicians. Horch's first long-playing record , Der Lautenschläger , was released in 1987 by the GDR record label Amiga . An LP with Christmas songs called Maria durch den Dornwald was also released in 1989 by Amiga. This makes Horch one of the few GDR folk bands that was able to release long-playing records at all. The band at that time included Klaus Adolphi, Andreas Fabian, Rainer-Christoph Dietrich and Stefan Wieczoreck; until 1986 Detlef Schubert.
In December 1989 Horch went on tour in England for the first time. Two years later the album Mittelalternativ was released , with which a swing towards the music of the medieval scene was made. The band gave concerts with the British band Jethro Tull and took part in the Tanz & FolkFest in Rudolstadt, the largest German folk festival. In 1995 the fourth album was released, Brandy and Mägdeleyn , followed by Barbarians in 1996 . The following year Horch performed again at the TFF.Rudolstadt and with Jethro Tull on their Germany tour. The sixth album was called Schockschwerenot and was released in 1998. Nachtgesang was released in 2003 and Best of HORCH in 2005 . Together with the folk rock band The Aberlour’s , of which Klaus Adolphi is also a member, Horch performed in 2008 with the Jethro Tull front man Ian Anderson and the Staatskapelle Halle in Halle. The band plays in the same line-up as in 1989, reinforced by the drummer Ralph Schneider.
In 2010 they played at the Crana Historica in Kronach, 2011 at the Wacken Open Air in Wacken and the Festival Mediaval in Selb.
