action

Tyler is obsessed with the horror movie The Hills Run Red . Those who know him claim that with the deranged serial killer Babyface he is the most shocking movie they have ever seen. But the film and director Wilson Wyler Concannon disappeared a few years ago and there is no known copy of the film. Tyler's research has an impact on his relationship with his girlfriend Serina. When Tyler learns that Concannon's daughter Alexa is working in a nightclub, he visits her there and asks about the missing film. Alexa tells him that the film could be in her father's house in the middle of a forest and Tyler decides to go to the spot with Alexa, Serina and his friend Lalo. As she travels, Tyler films a few interviews with the local people. During the night they are attacked and tied up by cutthroats when Babyface suddenly appears and kills the attackers. He turns towards the group, but is soothed by Alexa with a lullaby . Tyler, Serina and Lalo manage to break free and Tyler decides to help Alexa. Instead, Lalo and Serina try to call the police .

While Babyface is chasing Alexa, Tyler tries to find her. He discovers a farmhouse that was featured in The Hills Run Red . While Tyler is hiding behind a hay bale, he watches someone in front of the house, sitting on a rocking chair. Lalo and Serina finally reach the police with the cell phone, but before Serina can give her location, Lalo covers her mouth because he saw someone in the bush behind them. Lalo lights a flare and sees Babyface standing in front of her. He tries to distract him and calls Serina to run away. Serina does what he says, but Lalo is shot in the shoulder by Babyface.

Meanwhile, Tyler breaks into the house through a window, checks all the rooms and finds a red-lit room that contains many rolls of film hanging from the ceiling . One of the film strips shows Tyler and Alexa in the nightclub, and another shows them staying in the hotel, which suggests that he was watched from the start. Tyler hears screams as he leaves the room. He finds Alexa tied to a bed and frees her. The two leave the house and find Serina, but Babyface breaks through the door from the inside and brutally throws Tyler against the wall. Serina runs away, whereupon Alexa suddenly orders Babyface to pursue her. Tyler falls to the floor unconscious as Alexa approaches him. Serina runs and hides under a car parked in front of the house. Babyface doesn't find her there and disappears behind the house. She comes out from under the car and hides in a barn when Babyface appears again. Inside there are numerous dead bodies and the barn turns out to be a smokehouse . Through a crack Serina sees Babyface approaching the barn. When he enters the room, he cannot find her and leaves it again. Serina then emerges from her hiding place, a blood-filled barrel. She leaves the barn, supposedly safe, but is surprised by Babyface, who has already lurked on the roof.

Tyler wakes up and finds himself confined to a wheelchair when Wilson, the missing director of The Hills Run Red, appears. The director tells him the secret of why his film is so scary and plays a 20 year old video showing Wilson Concannon dissatisfied with the Babyface actor and showing him how to swing an ax by killing him with it. Tyler realizes the reason the screenings were canceled and the cast disappeared: the movie was felt to be too violent and the death scenes were real. Wilson pushes the wheelchair into the barn, where Alexa and Lalo, who is bound and gagged, are also located. It turns out that Alexa wants to be like her father, the director, and proves it to him by squeezing Lalo in a kind of machine, cutting open his skin and recording everything on camera. Wilson is not satisfied with this because he lacks feelings and Alexa uses blunt force. The two argue, whereby Alexa, among other things, rips the mask off Babyface and his disfigured face comes to light. Tyler then tries to save his friend by trying to convince Wilson that he can make him famous. But Wilson doesn't fall for the bluff and continues to argue with Alexa.

In a room next to the barn, Babyface is in the possession of the captured Serina. Wilson calls him into the next room and Serina is alone. She manages to free herself from her bonds and escapes from the room. Alexa kills Lalo with a knife in the chest and Wilson then tells his daughter that he is the only director in the family and shoots her in the stomach. Babyface, angry at Alexa's death, storms at Wilson and knocks him to the ground. Wilson yells out that he's Babyface's father and that Alexa was only 13 when she gave birth to him. So Babyface is an incest child between father and daughter. Tyler takes a camera and encourages Babyface to kill Wilson - which he does by stabbing him in the torso several times with a knife. Babyface then wants to kill Tyler, but is first pierced by Serina with a long iron rod and fatally injured. However, Alexa is still alive and knocks them both down with a shovel.

Tyler wakes up in a cinema-like room in the basement of the house. The audience consists of the bodies of everyone who was murdered while filming The Hills Run Red , including Lalo and Wilson. Alexa appears and gives Tyler the opportunity to finally see the entire film uncut. She leaves the room as she starts the film and Tyler sees all the bloody murders of the actors. Loud laughter breaks out and you can see he's bleeding profusely, which suggests he's going to bleed to death. After this scene, the film quickly switches to the credits.

After the first few seconds of the credits, there is an additional scene of Serina, who is tied to a bed and who is now heavily pregnant and is expecting a child from Babyface. Alexa comes to her, shows her Babyface's mask and asks her if the baby will like it. Then she lays her head on Serina's stomach and sings the lullaby. Serina screams loudly and the credits continue.
