The luscious quartet (original title: The Lickerish Quartet ) is a US-American-German-Italian erotic drama from 1970 by Radley Metzger with Silvana Venturelli as a mysterious visitor to the castle and Erika Remberg and Frank Wolff as the couple who reside there.

Somewhere in an unspecified castle where a middle-aged couple resides with their son, who is almost of age. The film begins with a poorly preserved Super 8 sex film shot in black and white, which all three watch in intimate harmony. The lord of the castle and his wife react to the somewhat sloppy, amateurish production, in which a statuesque, beautiful blonde is at the center of the plot, with intellectual arrogance, discuss the sense of reality and constantly make mocking comments, while the bad-tempered Filius is not overly turned on seems. After a short verbal argument with his father, he leaves the fireplace room, annoyed, followed by his mother.

A confusing game of saplings that challenges all the senses begins, in which the mysterious blonde holds the strings in her hand and all three members of the family are first beguiled and fascinated with their sensual eroticism, then seduced. The black and white film advances to a parallel identity in which the plot and the actors change. Suddenly, for example, while watching the porn movie again, the wife appears as a playmate of the original protagonist and is seduced by her just as much as she is when watching the film, when the blonde sits down next to her on the couch and at the same time rubs her to orgasm. The master of the house also falls for the beautiful. In a special erotic library, the literature and the floor labeled with erotic terms (“sex”, “phallus”, “penis”, “fuck” etc.) explained in a lexical style become a playground for the man and the young visitor when they, both turned on, first on the table, then rolling over the erotic labels, having sex with each other.
The son, on the other hand, who at first seems to be avoiding the beautiful seductress, is tracked down by the blonde on the crenellated walkway of the castle and seduced by her. After romping through the inside of the castle like children in love, they make love with each other in the great outdoors, with the castle building as a backdrop, accompanied only by the chirping of crickets. All of these processes become the meta-level of the story of a family, which projects their desires, desires and sexual dreams into the presence of strangers. So what is truth and reality, what is wishful thinking and fantasy? Where is film just celluloid, at what point does film begin to become reality, and is reality in truth often not just imagination? At the end, the couple sits in front of the rolled up screen again to watch the film again. The blonde castle guest is no longer the protagonist of the little film, the couple see themselves making love in bed.
The visit opened up new opportunities for the castle residents through his presence and aroused new lust for each other in the couple. The estranged couple find each other again, but the son, who storms out into the open, is desperately looking for his lost love. In the final scene, new, young people sit on the couch and chairs and watch the old black and white film (with the new cast, including the copulating couple) to make the same mocking comments as the couple once did.
Production notes
The lustful quartet was filmed at Castello Piccolomini in Balsorano in Abruzzo, Italy, and premiered on October 13, 1970 in New York. The German premiere was probably only four decades later, on September 18, 2010 as part of the Oldenburg Film Festival .
Enrico Sabbatini designed the film set and the costumes, Osman Ragheb was assistant director.
Erika Remberg ended her career as a film actress with this film. In the opening scene of the film, Remberg comments on a lesbian scene shown in the black and white sex film, stating that it reminds her of Therese and Isabell (1968). This strip was Metzger's previous production.
The film was released on DVD in September 2013.
