The Outer Worlds is a computer role-playing game from Obsidian Entertainment for Microsoft Windows , Xbox One , PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch . It was published on October 25, 2019 by Private Division, a games label owned by the American publisher Take 2 Interactive .

action

The Outer Worlds takes place in a futuristic alternative world in which the American President William McKinley was not assassinated. As a result, Theodore Roosevelt never came to power and his social reforms and measures against corporate monopolies were never implemented. Instead, the corporations gained ever greater influence on social life and determine the living conditions of people right down to private life at the time of the game. The colonization of the universe was ultimately promoted through the resulting megacorporations . At the edge of the human colonial area, the player character is awakened from cryosleep on board a colonist ship by the mad scientist Phineas Welles and abandoned near the Emerald Vale colony.

“Creative science fiction, great dialogues, free play with decisions. This feels like a mix of Fallout New Vegas , Mass Effect and BioShock . Despite a few deficits, Obsidian stages a very good role play! "

- Jörg Luibl : 4Players

Publisher Take 2 described the title in an investor conference call at the beginning of November, both in terms of reviews and sales figures, as a success that exceeded original group expectations.
