occupation

The Wrong Mans (Original title: The Wrong Mans ; intentionally wrong English for "The Wrong Men") is a British dramedy series with Mathew Baynton and James Corden in the lead roles. It was produced from 2013 to 2014 by the BBC in collaboration with the US online video portal Hulu . On the show, two mediocre clerks who work for the Bracknell local government suddenly get caught in an unbelievable - but terribly serious - web of crime, conspiracy and corruption .

In the United Kingdom , the series was shown on BBC Two from September 24, 2013 . In the US , the series has been available online on Hulu since November 11, 2013. In Germany, the first six episodes were broadcast on April 2, 2015 on Arte .

action

On the way to work, Sam Pinkett immediately witnessed a car overturning at excessive speed on the country road. Sam calls the police and the ambulance, who take the seriously injured driver to the hospital. After Sam remains alone on the country road, he hears the ringing of a cell phone, which he suspects belongs to the accident driver. When he picks up the call, the caller threatens to kill the cell phone owner's wife if he does not get his money immediately. Confused, Sam first goes to his place of work, but the call doesn't leave him alone. He confides in his cocky but not very intelligent colleague Phil and they decide to visit the cell phone owner at the hospital to hand over the phone and the problem associated with it. He denies that the cell phone belongs to him and so Sam goes to a meeting with Phil, which he had already arranged to meet with the kidnapper, because he wants to save the woman. When the two want to leave the hospital, they are kidnapped themselves. Unintentionally, the two of them get increasingly caught up in a web of crime and espionage.

backgrounds

The series is based on an idea of the leading actors James Corden and Mathew Baynton, who also contributed to the script. During a conversation during the filming of the series Gavin & Stacey , leading actor Corden and supporting actor Baynton were surprised that nobody realizes a "big" series like 24 or Lost with a humorous twist. Further inspiration was the movie Burn After Reading of the Coen brothers , easier with the motive of people who suddenly find themselves in a serious situation. Baynton: “You think of the action clichés that you are working towards, like jumping from a bridge onto a moving train. What does it take for the average person to make this extraordinary decision? ”“ That is the premise. Something has to be done, it's just the wrong person doing it. ”According to Corden, the wrong spelling was chosen to make it clear that it was a comedy series.

Reviews

“The miniseries shows the sometimes comical consequences without losing its storyline. This is mainly due to the fact that humor with Baynton and Cordon - the two actors also wrote the script - is not just a decorative accessory. They make their British carelessness an essential part of the story: Villains become fax makers and clues become running gags. "
