Theodora Grodtczinsky (born September 17, 1893 in Düren , Rhineland , † April 19, 1978 ) was a German actress . As a Jew, she was banned from practicing her profession during the Nazi era for racial reasons .

family

Thea Grodtczinsky was the daughter of the grain dealer Nathan Grodtczinsky (born January 4, 1862 in Sochaczew ) and Amalie nee Strauss (born June 16, 1857 in Erkelenz , † July 28, 1920 Cologne-Ehrenfeld). The family lived in Düren, later in Cologne-Ehrenfeld. Before she was born, her parents lived in Erkelenz, where her father worked in his father-in-law Salomon Strauss's country produce and grain trade.

Thea Grodtczinsky met fellow actor Paul Henckels at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus . The two married in 1921 after Paul Henckels divorced Cecilia Brie. The marriage remained childless.

In the 1930s the couple lived in Kleinmachnow near Berlin. Most recently, the two of them lived in the Schlosshotel Hugenpoet near Kettwig. Their common grave is on the Südfriedhof in Düsseldorf .

The couple met at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus . Thea Grodtczinsky was then a young student at the Düsseldorf stage school, but already appeared as Miranda in William Shakespeare's Sturm , Paul Henckels played the Caliban. In 1913 he got the role of Anton Wibbel in the play Schneider Wibbel by Hans Müller-Schlösser . When his then stage partner Fin Wibbel left the stage around 1916 , Thea Grodtczinsky was used for this character by Louise Dumont , although she confessed at her performance: “I can't speak a Rhenish dialect.” Since then, the two actors have appeared in over fifteen hundred theater performances as a couple Wobble on; in Düsseldorf and other cities, in 1931 in a film in which Paul Henckels also directed, and in several radio plays.
