The Løgtingswahl 1990 in the Faroe Islands took place on November 17, 1990. It was the 12th election since the internal self-government ( heimastýri ) was obtained in 1948.

The big winner was the social democratic Javnaðarflokkurin , who also emerged as the largest party from this election. He was able to gain three seats and increase the number of seats from 7 to 10.

The loser in this election was the left-wing Republican Tjóðveldisflokkurin , who lost over 4 percent and lost two seats. The unionist Sambandsflokkurin and the conservative Fólkaflokkurin were also among the losers. They each had to give up one seat.

Of the smaller parties, the Kristiligi Fólkaflokkurin was able to keep his share of the vote, while the Sjálvstýrisflokkurin was able to gain and received another seat.

The left-wing separatist party Sosialistiski Loysingarflokkurin , which appeared for the first time, missed the target and did not run for the next election in 1990.

The result of the election meant that the previously broken, bourgeois-conservative-led state government Jógvan Sundstein II was replaced by the social democratic-led state government Atli Dam VI , in which the Fólkaflokkurin, however, as a major coalition partner with three ministers, including Jógvan Sundstein as deputy prime minister was involved.
