The 2015 Løgtingswahl in the Faroe Islands took place on September 1st, 2015. It was the 19th parliamentary election since internal self-government ( heimastýri ) was achieved in 1948.

The clear losers in this election were the two big governing parties , the unionist Sambandsflokkurin of Prime Minister Kaj Leo Johannesen , who lost almost 6 percent, and the conservative coalition partner Fólkaflokkurin of Finance Minister Jørgen Niclasen , who lost over 3 percent of the vote. Both parties had to give up two seats each.

The big winner of this election was the social democratic Javnaðarflokkurin headed by Aksel V. Johannesen . The party gained over 7 percent of the vote, making it the largest party. She was able to win two seats in Løgting. The election for Aksel V. Johannesen was also extremely successful personally. It received the highest number of personal votes that any politician had ever received in a Faroese parliamentary election. The left-wing Republican party Tjóðveldi also grew slightly by more than 2 percent and received an additional seat.

The three smaller parties, Framsókn , Miðflokkurin and Sjálvstýrisflokkurin , were able to maintain their positions, whereby the Sjálvstýrisflokkurin managed to get one more seat.

Kaj Leo Johannesen had to resign due to the election result and Aksel V. Johannesen vom Javnaðarflokkurin was commissioned to lead coalition negotiations and form a government. The negotiations led to the so-called CEF coalition, named after the party letters of Javnaðarflokkurin, Tjóðveldi and Framsókn. On September 15, 2015, the newly formed state government Aksel V. Johannesen started its work.
