Løgtingswahl 2004
The 2004 Løgtingswahl in the Faroe Islands took place on January 20th, 2004. It was the 16th election since internal self-government ( heimastýri ) was obtained in 1948.
The election essentially confirmed the result of the 2002 election. The unionist Sambandsflokkurin , however, had to give up a seat, but remained the largest party. The winner was the Miðflokkurin , who doubled his seats from one to two.
The left-wing Republican Tjóðveldisflokkurin and the social democratic Javnaðarflokkurin were able to achieve slight profits, but without winning a seat. The Javnaðarflokkurin had now become the second strongest party in terms of percentage , while the Prime Minister's conservative Fólkaflokkurin was only the fourth strongest party in percentage terms. In the subsequent coalition negotiations, the social democratically led state government Jóannes Eidesgaard I was formed , which replaced the state government of Anfinn Kallsberg II on February 3, 2004.
