Løgtingswahl 1984

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 1984 Løgting election in the Faroe Islands took place on November 8, 1984. It was the 10th election after obtaining internal self-government ( heimastýri ) in 1948.

The winners were the social democratic Javnaðarflokkurin , who won a seat and became the largest party, and the conservative Fólkaflokkurin , who increased his seat share from 6 to 7.

The loser in this election was the unionist Sambandsflokkurin , who had to give up a seat. The left-wing Republican Tjóðveldisflokkurin , however, could keep his voting and seat shares.

Of the two smaller parties, the Sjálvstýrisflokkurin was able to keep his voting shares, but still had to give up a seat. The Framburðsflokkurin , who ran under his new name Kristiligi Fólkaflokkurin for the first time in this election , posted heavy losses. However, this did not lead to a loss of seat.

The result of the election resulted in the unionist-led state government Pauli Ellefsen being replaced by the social-democratic state government Atli Dam IV . The Sjálvstýrisflokkurin was the only party that was represented in both coalitions and thus remained in power.
