Løgtingswahl 1988

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 1988 Løgtingswahl in the Faroe Islands took place on November 8, 1988. It was the 11th election after obtaining internal self-government ( heimastýri ) in 1948.

The winner was the conservative Fólkaflokkurin , who emerged as the largest party from this election. He was able to gain one seat and increase the number of seats from 7 to 8.

The loser in this election was the social democratic Javnaðarflokkurin , who had to give up a seat. The unionist Sambandsflokkurin and the left-wing Republican Tjóðveldisflokkurin were able to keep their shares. The two smaller parties, the Sjálvstýrisflokkurin and the Kristiligi Fólkaflokkurin , were able to keep their share of the seats. The Framsóknarflokkurin, a short-lived spin-off from Kristiligi Fólkaflokkurin, who ran for the first time in this election, was unsuccessful and later disbanded.

The result of the election resulted in the social democratic led state government Atli Dam V being replaced by the bourgeois-conservative led state government Jógvan Sundstein I , in which the Tjóðveldisflokkurin was still involved as a major coalition partner with two ministers, including Signar Hansen as deputy prime minister.
