Løgtingswahl 1950
The 1950 Løgtingswahl in the Faroe Islands took place on November 8, 1950. It was the first choice after obtaining internal self-government ( heimastýri ) in 1948.
The big winner in this Løgtingswahl was the Tjóðveldisflokkurin , who ran for the first time in an election , with almost 10 percent of the vote . The four old parties, on the other hand, suffered losses, with Fólkaflokkurin particularly hard hit with over 8 percent. However, since the number of MPs was increased from 20 to 25, no party lost a seat. Despite the losses, the Fólkaflokkurin remained the largest party in parliament with 8 seats.
The previous mostly unionist coalition of Sambandsflokkurin Sjálvstýrisflokkurin and Javnaðarflokkurin under Prime Minister Andrass Samuelsen was not continued. Instead, formed the Sambandsflokkurin with Kristian Djurhuus at the top together with the Fólkaflokkurin a two-coalition of the two largest parties: the state government Andrass Samuelsen was followed by the state government Kristian Djurhuus I .

With this election, the total number of MPs in Løgting was increased from 20 to 25. Five parties took part in the election, all of which entered parliament.
