history

Lower mouth hole of the drainage rose near the inlet into the striegis

The tunnel was first mentioned in 1526, but it was probably created earlier . It was intended to replace the Brandstollen , about 24 m higher , which had long since been unable to keep mining, which was progressing deeper and deeper, free from penetrating pit water . Under Simon Bogner and Martin Planer , the tunnel was driven forward quickly , 14.5 km between 1557 and 1570 alone. The importance is also shown in the fact that Elector August drove this tunnel, which was state until the end, in 1556 for 3.2 km.

Already in the 16th century all the major mines in the coalfield Brander were approached . Numerous bays had this drilled are or were with the Stolln in combination, including the high slot , the Endigschacht , the consolation of Israel / Stone bay , the Erasmus shaft and the franc bay . The general inspection in 1804 resulted in a measured length of 47.8 km. Since individual sections were not navigable , it is assumed that the system with all side wings extends over 50 to 60 km. In the north the old murder pit was approached and in the south the tunnel reached beyond the stamping ponds east of Langenau . The main purpose of the tunnel, however, was to drain the Ascension treasure trove . The last general inspection took place on August 25, 1850.

With the mining industry penetrating ever deeper, the raised groundwater was later also discharged via other eruptions. Via the 21 m deeper Neue Segen Gottes Erbstolln into the Striegis, over the 54 m lower Moritzstolln into the Freiberg Mulde and finally from 1882 over the Rothschönberger Stolln 250 m below the site . The Thelersberger Stolln only lost its function when silver mining in Freiberg mining area was stopped in 1913. Even today, 50 to 100 liters per minute flow off through it.
