Simon Bogner

Simon Bogner (* around 1500 ; † August 31, 1568 in Freiberg ) was a Saxon mining official and entrepreneur . He was instrumental in the renewed upswing in mining in the Freiberg district in the 16th century.

Live and act

The origin of Bogner is unknown. However, its name suggests that the family originally came from southern Germany. It is considered certain that Bogner moved to Freiberg from abroad, as he submitted "letters" when he was accepted into the miners' union in 1533.

He was first mentioned in 1528 when he bought the house at Donatsgasse 17. Later he also owned the houses at Fischerstraße 15 and Nonnengasse 17. Until 1530 he was town bailiff and town court clerk. He distinguished himself "by the very finest [writing] of all previous city voices".

He also worked as a mining entrepreneur. He owned a smelter and was a craftsman , that is, a mine co-owner. From 1537 he was shift supervisor on several mines.

In 1541 he became a mountain master for the Freiberg mining area. Despite entering the civil service, he was allowed to keep the business benefits he had been granted. On September 21, 1545 he was then appointed mountain bailiff . In this capacity he was in charge of all mines in the Erzgebirge district . With him and the mining authority administrator Hans Röhling , the establishment of a medium-sized mining authority, the later Saxon Upper Mining Authority, began .

One of his most important achievements was the overcoming of several Erbstolln: 1526 the Thelersberger Stolln near Linda in the Striegis , 1542 the Hohebirker or Hüttenstolln in the Münzbach , 1543 the Bockstolln near Tuttendorf , 1544 the Christophstolln near Hilbersdorf and 1550 the Annastolln (formerly also Bogner deeper adit) zu Rothenfurth) at Halsbrücke , all in the Freiberger Mulde .

Mining-historically significant are his mountain customs written down in articles , which document the customary law in Freiberg mining at that time .
