Them Crooked Vultures [ ðɛm Kru kəd vʌlʧɚs ] (in German about this crooked vultures , within the meaning of corrupt suit carriers) is a hard rock - Super Group , engaged in in 2009 Los Angeles founded. It includes the singer and guitarist Josh Homme ( Queens of the Stone Age , Kyuss ), the bassist, mandolin player and keyboardist John Paul Jones , best known through Led Zeppelin , and the drummer Dave Grohl ( Foo Fighters and Queens of the Stone Age, formerly Drums at Nirvana ). Alain Johannes , former member of Queens of the Stone Age, accompanies the trio in live performances.

Band history

The New Musical Express reported in July 2009 that the trio was recording in Los Angeles. The collaboration was first brought up publicly by Grohl in a 2005 interview with Mojo , who said, “The next project I try to get started includes me on drums, Josh Homme on guitar, and John Paul Jones on bass plays. This is the next album. ”About the upcoming project, von Homme's wife, Brody Dalle , said in July 2009 that“ I'm not allowed to talk about it, but I think [the project] is, damn it, amazing. Beats and sounds you've never heard before ”.

The trio performed their first show at the Metro Club in Chicago , Illinois on August 9, 2009. According to Jim DeRogatis of the Chicago Sun-Times , the band played only original material with titles like Interlude with Ludes , Caligulove and Scumbag Blues during the 80-minute set .

Their second show took place in Melkweg in Amsterdam on August 19th. In addition, the band performed as a surprise guest at the Pukkelpop Festival in Belgium the following day .

The band's first studio album is called Them Crooked Vultures . It was released worldwide in stages on November 13, 2009, initially in Australia as well as Germany , Austria and Switzerland . From November 16, 2009, other countries in Europe followed before the album was released on November 17, 2009 in the USA and Canada . In advance, teaser clips for some of the songs on the album were released via Youtube . The first single, New Fang , had its radio premiere on October 26, 2009. In the run-up to the release, the entire album was uploaded to the official YouTube band profile on November 9, 2009 and was only removed a week later at the start of sales.
