Theo Vondano

Theodor Vondano (born November 14, 1926 in Kaiserslautern ; † May 25, 1993 there ) was a German politician ( CDU ). From 1979 to 1989 he was Lord Mayor of Kaiserslautern.

Life

After completing primary school, Vondano completed an apprenticeship as an electrical mechanic and then attended the technical college for mechanical engineering and electrical engineering in Kaiserslautern. He was drafted into the Wehrmacht , took part in the Second World War as a soldier and was last taken prisoner, from which he was released in 1948. He then worked for the Deutsche Bundesbahn and became master foreman in the Kaiserslautern repair shop .

Vondano joined the CDU and was elected to the Kaiserslautern city council in 1952, where he took over the leadership of the CDU parliamentary group in 1962. From the state elections in 1963 until his resignation on December 31, 1975, he was a member of the state parliament of Rhineland-Palatinate ( 5th , 6th , 7th and 8th electoral periods ). From 1971 to 1975 he was Parliamentary Managing Director of the CDU parliamentary group.

Vondano turned back to local politics. From 1975 to 1979 he was alderman and from 1979 to 1989 mayor of the city of Kaiserslautern. During his tenure in 1988, the city partnerships with Bunkyō-ku and Brandenburg an der Havel were established.

Theo Vondano was married and had a daughter.

Honors

Vondano was a member of the board of trustees of the Technical University of Kaiserslautern and was made an honorary senator by it. According to him, is Theo-Vondano street named in Kaiserslautern.
