Hans Jung (born March 15, 1930 in Kaiserslautern ; † March 28, 2012 there ) was a German lawyer and politician of the SPD . From 1967 to 1979 he was Lord Mayor of the city of Kaiserslautern.

Life

Hans Jung studied law and economics at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz . He passed the first state examination in law and was awarded a doctorate in law in 1956 (dissertation: The ancillary provisions of the administrative acts ). After passing the second state examination in law, he entered the administrative service and was appointed to the government council.

Jung was active in local politics and from 1962 to 1967 was an alderman and building department for the city of Kaiserslautern. In this role, he oversaw the expansion of the Betzenberg Stadium . After Walter Sommer retired in 1967, he took over the office of Lord Mayor, making him the youngest mayor in West Germany. During his tenure, Kaiserslautern received the status of a major city in 1969 after numerous suburbs were incorporated. One year later the foundation stone of the Technical University of Kaiserslautern was laid . In 1974 the town twinning with the London Borough of Newham was established. In the mid-1970s, an internal party dispute broke out in the Kaiserslautern SPD between Jung and the head of the cultural affairs department, Baltfried Barthel , which caused a national stir. After the local elections in 1979, Jung was replaced by Theo Vondano as Lord Mayor.

Jung was a member of various supervisory boards, from 1973 president of the Sparkassen- und Giroverband Rheinland-Pfalz , deputy chairman of the board of directors of Landesbank Rheinland-Pfalz and chairman of the association of municipal companies. Until 1985 he was a member of the board of the Bavarian brewery Schuck-Jaenisch AG . In 1986 he took up a position as a lawyer at the law firm Dr. Langguth & Kollegen in Kaiserslautern, which he carried out until his death. In addition, he worked as a lecturer at the German University of Administrative Sciences Speyer , the Administration and Business Academy and at the Technical University of Kaiserslautern, of which he was a member of the board of trustees.

Hans Jung was married to Margarete Wittka and had two daughters. He died in March 2012 at the age of 82 in Kaiserslautern and was buried in the main cemetery in Kaiserslautern on the following Friday, accompanied by a large mourners .
