The Rhineland-Palatinate Landtag consisted of 100 members in the 7th electoral period from 1971 to 1975.

The state election on March 21, 1971 resulted in the following:

On October 11, 1972, the allocation of mandates according to the electoral key procedure was declared unconstitutional by the Federal Constitutional Court , whereupon the allocation of seats had to be corrected. Three seats were awarded to the FDP, while the SPD lost two and the CDU lost one. On December 12, 1972, the members of the state parliament Loni Böhm , Werner Hublitz and Erich Meckel left the state parliament prematurely. The next day the mandates were filled by Hans Friderichs , Fritz Schneider and Wilhelm Ulmen .
