Hans Helzer

Hans Gerhard Helzer (born August 18, 1927 in Niederhausen / Sieg ; † March 12, 2020 ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

Attending elementary school was followed by training at the Boppard Teachers' College from 1941 to 1944 . After military service and the end of the war, he continued his teaching degree. From 1947 to 1948 he studied at the Bergnassau Pedagogy and then at the Pedagogical Academies in Bad Neuenahr and Worms until 1950. The first teacher examination took place in 1950 and the second in 1954.

From 1950 Helzer worked as a primary school teacher in Diez , Weißenberg (Westerwald), Isert and Eichelhardt (near Altenkirchen). In 1965 he was appointed rector in Betzdorf (Sieg) and from 1970 in Hamm (Sieg).

Political party

Helzer had been a member of the SPD since 1946. He was chairman and honorary managing director of the local SPD association in Altenkirchen and a member of the district and sub-district executive boards.

Helzer was elected to the Rhineland-Palatinate Landtag for the first time in the 1971 state elections and was a member of it for four terms from May 18, 1971 to June 2, 1987. In the 7th and 8th electoral terms he was a member of the cultural policy committee. He took over the chairmanship of the committee in the middle of the 8th electoral term and also headed the committee in the 9th and 10th electoral term. In the 10th electoral term he was also a member of the Budget and Finance Committee.

From 1960 to 1965 he was a member of the Altenkirchen office and from 1968 to 1970 a member of the Betzdorf municipal council. In addition, he was a member of the Altenkirchen municipal council and, from 1994 to 2004, of the Altenkirchen district council .

In 1979 he was a member of the 7th Federal Assembly .

Helzer was honorary managing director of the Kreisverband Arbeit und Leben and a member of the board of trustees of the Rhineland-Palatinate University of Education . From 1950 he was a member of the GEW and from 1958 to 1974 chairman of the district association Altenkirchen of the GEW. From 1959 to 1971 he was a member of the district staff council for teachers at elementary schools in the Koblenz district.
