Theodor Döhler (born April 20, 1814 in Naples , † February 21, 1856 in Florence ) was a German composer and pianist .

Life

Döhler's father († 1843 in Lucca ) was regimental conductor in Naples. He received his first musical education from the Naples-based Kapellmeister Julius Benedict and was already performing public concerts in Naples when he was 13 years old. In 1827 he followed his father, who was called to Lucca, there. Theodor Döhler studied in Vienna from 1829 to 1834 . Here he received his pianistic training from Beethoven's student Carl Czerny . At the same time he received composition lessons from Simon Sechter . As early as 1832 he played works by Czerny and Beethoven in the Vienna Musikverein .

In the same year he was appointed chamber virtuoso by Charles II Ludwig . In December 1834 he played works by Friedrich Kalkbrenner in Naples . From 1836 to 1845 he spent almost uninterrupted concert tours in the states of the German Confederation , in France , England , Russia and the Netherlands . In 1838 he gave his first concert in London . These art trips were interrupted by the death of his father, who had called him back to Italy in 1843.

Baronized by the Duke of Lucca in 1846 , he married Countess Jelisaveta Sheremeteva (Elise Sheremetjeff, 1818–1890), whom he met in 1845 on a trip to Russia. In 1847 he played at the Paris Conservatory . He was 41 years old.
