Theodor Hogg OSB (born August 16, 1941 as Klaus Hogg in Kirchen-Hausen , today in Geisingen ) is a German Benedictine and retired Archabbot of the Beuron Archabbey .

Life

Hogg was born on August 16, 1941 in Kirchen-Hausen on the middle Baar .

He decided to live religiously and in the early 1960s entered the Benedictine Archabbey of St. Martin zu Beuron , founded in 1863 , where he made his profession on July 25, 1962 . In 1967 he was ordained a priest and in 1970 took over the management of the monastery library from Ursmar Engelmann ; In 1980 he was appointed prior of the Archabbey by Archabbot Hieronymus Nitz .

On 6 March 2001 Father Theodor Hogg became the tenth abbot of the Abbey Beuron selected and received on 31 March 2001 by the Freiburg Archbishop Oskar Saier the Abtsbenediktion . For the motto of his abbotical ministry he chose: Pacem Dones Protinus - Give your peace forever from the Pentecost hymn “ Veni creator spiritus ”. At their Easter conference in 2003, the members of the Salzburg Abbots' Conference elected him their second assistant. Theodor Hogg held this office until 2012. From 2004 to 2007 he was also the Abbot Administrator of Weingarten Abbey .

According to the election regulations, Hogg had to resign from the office of archabbot on August 16, 2011 when he reached the age of 70. He had already stated for some time that he did not want to use the possibility of re-election. Since then, the former Archabbot Theodor has been active as a spiritualist in the Cistercian Abbey of Kloster Lichtenthal and at the same time continues to be the librarian of the Archabbey of Beuron.

Theodor Hogg is a part-time marriage bond defender at the Diocesan Court of the Archdiocese of Freiburg .
