Theophil Eicher (born August 20, 1932 in Heidelberg ; † October 21, 2016 in Saarbrücken ) was a German chemist and university professor .

Eicher studied chemistry at Heidelberg University and received his doctorate there in 1960 . His doctoral supervisor was the later Nobel Prize winner Georg Wittig . He then continued his studies at Columbia University , New York with Ronald Breslow . He completed his habilitation in 1967 at the University of Würzburg under Siegfried Hünig with the topic "On the reaction of 1,2-diaryl-3-ethoxycyclopropenylium cations". Eicher became associate professor in 1973 and in 1974 received a call as HS-3 professor to a chair for organic chemistry at the University of Hamburg . From 1976 to 1982 he was full professor for organic chemistry at the University of Dortmund . From 1982 until his retirement in 2000 he was full professor for organic chemistry at Saarland University .

Work areas

His topics were the preparative chemistry of cyclopropenones and triafulvene , especially their use as C3 building blocks for the synthesis of carbocyclic and heterocyclic systems; the synthesis of natural products and active ingredients, with a focus on the synthesis of bryophyte ingredients and their mimetics and the application and development of stereoselective synthesis methods .
