Thom Lennart Eklund (born October 28, 1958 in Enköping ) is a former Swedish ice hockey player , coach and official.

Career

Thom Eklund began his career as an ice hockey player with IF Björklöven , for whose professional team he was active from 1981 to 1984 in the Elitserien , the highest Swedish division. His greatest success with the team during this period was the runner-up in the 1981/82 season . For the 1984/85 season , the winger moved within the Elitserien to Södertälje SK , with which he immediately won the Swedish championship . In the following season he reached the championship final again with the team, but was subject to the Färjestad BK in this . In the following years he remained loyal to the SSK, which he only left after relegation in the 1991/92 season. He then joined the SHC Fassa from the Italian A1 series . There he ended his active career following the 1992/93 season at the age of 34.

From 2002 to 2005 Eklund worked for Almtuna IS . First he rose in the 2002/03 season with the team from the third division Division 1 in the HockeyAllsvenskan , before he was general manager of the club for a year. The 2004/05 season he began again in the position as head coach before he was replaced by Leif Boork mid-season .

International

For Sweden Eklund took part in the World Championships in 1983 , 1986 and 1987 as well as the Winter Olympics in Sarajevo in 1984 and in Calgary in 1988 . At the 1986 World Cup he and his team won the silver medal and the gold medal at the 1987 World Cup. In his two Olympics he won bronze medals with Sweden. He also represented his country in 1987 at the Canada Cup .
