Thomas Anthony Welch (born November 2, 1884 in Faribault , Minnesota , USA ; † September 9, 1959 in Duluth ) was Bishop of Duluth .

Life

Thomas Anthony Welch studied Catholic theology and philosophy at the College of St. Thomas and the Seminary in Saint Paul , Minnesota. He received on 11 June 1909, the sacrament of Holy Orders .

From 1909 Welch was private secretary first to Archbishop John Ireland and from 1919 to 1922 by Archbishop Austin Dowling . From 1918 Thomas Anthony Welch was also Chancellor and Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Saint Paul . In February 1924 Pope Pius XI awarded him . the honorary title of papal house prelate.

On December 14, 1925, Pope Pius XI appointed him. to the Bishop of Duluth. The Archbishop of Saint Paul, Austin Dowling, donated him episcopal ordination on February 3, 1926 ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Fargo , James O'Reilly , and the Bishop of Saint Cloud , Joseph Francis Busch .
