Francis Joseph Schenk (born April 1, 1901 in Superior , Wisconsin , USA ; † October 28, 1969 in Duluth , Minnesota ) was Bishop of Duluth .

Life

Francis Joseph Schenk attended St. Thomas Academy in Mendota Heights from 1915 to 1918 . In 1922, Schenk earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the College of St. Thomas in Saint Paul . Francis Joseph Schenk received a Bachelor of Sacred Theology from the seminary in Saint Paul in 1926 . He received on 13 June 1926, the sacrament of Holy Orders .

In 1928 Schenk received his doctorate in canon law from the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC . From 1928 to 1930 he was Archbishop Austin Dowling's private secretary . In 1930 he became Vice Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Saint Paul . From 1934 to 1942 Francis Joseph Schenk was professor at the seminary in Saint Paul. In 1942 he became Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Rector of the Cathedral of Saint Paul .

On March 10, 1945 Pope Pius XII appointed him . to the Bishop of Crookston . The Archbishop of Saint Paul, John Gregory Murray , donated him episcopal ordination on May 24 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Duluth, Thomas Anthony Welch , and the Bishop of Fargo , Aloysius Muench . On January 19, 1960, Pope John XXIII appointed him . to the Bishop of Duluth.

Francis Joseph Schenk attended all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council .

On April 30, 1969, Pope Paul VI took the resignation put forward by Francis Joseph Schenk for reasons of age.
