Thomas Dechel (born November 11, 1992 in Vienna ) is an Austrian ice hockey goalkeeper who has been playing for the second team of the EC KAC in the Alps Hockey League since 2016 .

Career

Thomas Dechel began his ice hockey career in 1997 in his hometown with the Vienna Ice Skating Club . In 2009 he moved to the U20s of the Vienna Capitals youth club , EAC Junior Capitals. There he played in 2009/2010 both in the U20 national championship and in the cooperation club “Die 48er” in the major league .

In 2010/2011 he played for the Vienna Capitals II in the major league. In the 2011/12 season he was the first goalkeeper of the Vienna Capitals II (Silver Caps) in the National League , the second Austrian division. On March 4, 2012 he made his debut for the Vienna Capitals in the Erste Bank Eishockey Liga , where he was substituted on in the decisive game 7 of the play-off quarter-final (3: 8) against EHC Linz when the score was 0: 5.

In September 2012 Dechel signed a contract with EHC Linz and was used in a total of 67 games in the junior league Erste Bank Young Stars League in 2012/13 and 2013/14 . At the same time he acted as a substitute goalkeeper in the professional team behind Michael Ouzas and Lorenz Hirn , but did not appear in the EBEL.

Dechel has been the backup goalkeeper behind Michael Ouzas since the 2014/15 season . On October 3, 2014, he played his first EBEL game for EHC Linz against HDD Olimpija Ljubljana , achieved a shutout (final score 4: 0) and was voted Man of the Match . He played a total of 9 matches in the basic round including the intermediate round in 2014/15 and achieved an SVS% of 91.5. On March 20, 2015, he was substituted on against HC Bozen in the decisive game 7 of the quarter-final series in the 4th minute of the game when the score was 1: 2 for the injured Michael Ouzas, saved 21 of 22 shots and thus contributed to the semi-finals EHC Linz . In the 2015/16 season, Dechel played 9 games for EHC Linz and achieved a catch quota of 92.6% and an average of 2.05 goals against.

He has been playing for the EC KAC II since 2016 .

International

Dechel was called up to the Austrian U20 national team several times between 2010 and 2012. He completed a few preparation games and took part in the U20 World Cup of Division I in Garmisch-Partenkirchen . There he played against Germany (2:11, substitute 0: 6), Belarus (2: 6) and won the playoff for relegation against Great Britain 3: 1 with his team.
