Thomas Gradinger

Thomas Gradinger (born August 11, 1996 in St. Marienkirchen near Schärding ) is an Austrian motorcycle racer .

Career

Thomas Gradinger competed in the ADAC Junior Cup from 2009 to 2011 , which he finished in his third season behind Max Maurischat in second overall. For the 2012 season he started for the first time in the International German Motorcycle Championship in the class up to 125 cm³. During the season he switched to the Moto3 category. In the following year Gradinger achieved his first podium in the IDM on a KTM at the Sachsenring and ended the season in Moto3 in sixth place overall.

In 2015 and 2016 he drove in the Spanish Motorcycle Road Championship (CEV) in the Moto2 class on FTR and scored a total of 16 points.

At the end of the 2016 season , the IDM Supersport 600 entered the field with the Buchner Motorsport team on a Yamaha YZF-R 6 . Gradinger reached the podium in four of six races, including two wins at the season finale at the Hockenheimring , which earned him eighth place in the final standings.

In the 2017 season Gradinger started for Team MPB in the Supersport 600 class. The Austrian won four races and was on the podium in ten of twelve races, securing the championship title with a 26 point lead over Kevin Wahr . He also started at the Lausitzring for the first time in a run for the Supersport World Championship with a wildcard . He scored ninth and seven World Cup points.

In 2018 Gradinger took part in the Supersport World Championship. He started for the Nerds Racing Team and finished the season as the best newcomer in seventh place overall. His best results were three fourth places at the end of the season. His team hit the headlines during the season as salaries were not paid and the team threatened to break up.

For the 2019 season Gradinger switched to the Kallio Racing Team, which won the Supersport World Championship with Sandro Cortese the year before . The Austrian achieved his first pole position on the third race weekend at Motorland Aragón and his first podium in the world championship at the following event in Assen .

Gradinger reached an agreement with the Kiefer Racing Team for the 2020 season . He should start alongside Lukas Tulovic in the Supersport World Championship on a Yamaha R6. During the preparations for the season, Kiefer announced that the budget would not be enough for a full season and withdrew from the World Cup. Gradinger was therefore not given a regular driver seat in 2020.
