Thomas Jacob (born November 11, 1965 in Lichtenstein / Sa. ) Is a former German luge athlete . Thomas Jacob was at the start for SC Traktor Oberwiesenthal . In the second half of the 1980s he was one of the best luge riders in the world. In 1986 he won the title of GDR champion for the first time in Oberhof ahead of Michael Walter and Torsten Görlitzer . A year later, the Saxon had to surrender to Jens Müller and René Friedl in the same place. His career highlight was his participation in the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary . Jacob started the competition in fourth place in the first run and reached fifth time in the second run. In the third run he was able to achieve the best time of all participants, but missed the good position with the sixth time in the final fourth run and finally came fourth behind Jens Müller, Georg Hackl and Juri Chartschenko . In 1989 Jacob was the last GDR luge champion in Altenberg ahead of Friedl and Jörg Hoffmann . The last international success was winning the team competition, which was held for the first time at the 1990 Luge World Championships in Calgary, which he achieved alongside Müller, Gabriele Kohlisch , Susi Erdmann , Hoffmann and Jochen Pietzsch .
