Thomas Landsberg

Thomas Landsberg (born May 17, 1945 in Göttingen , † December 29, 2010 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a German local politician .

Life

After graduating from high school in Itzehoe , Landsberg studied law in Göttingen and Freiburg. The studies were followed by departmental activities in the district offices of the Lörrach and Emmendingen districts . From 1975 to 1989 and 1999 to 2004 he was a member of the SPD parliamentary group of the Freiburg municipal council. For nine years he was their parliamentary group leader. From 1990 to 1998 he was mayor for schools , culture and sport in the city of Freiburg im Breisgau.

As a local politician, he advocated a colorful and diverse cultural policy in the city. He was a co-founder of the communal cinema , co-initiator of the establishment of the children's and youth theater in Marienbad and the driving force behind the expansion of the former power station into an institution for alternative culture with venues and studios. During his term of office, however, the general renovation of the Freiburg city theater and the completion of the Freiburg concert hall also fell .

He had been a member of the SPD since 1970 . After a long and serious illness, which made further public work impossible for him from 2004, he died at the end of 2010 at the age of 65.
