biography

Miller and his family moved to Regina in what was then the Northwest Territories as a child . In 1892 he began a two-year apprenticeship with the Regina Standard newspaper , which was owned by the future Prime Minister of Saskatchewan, Thomas Walter Scott . When Scott founded the Moose Jaw Times in 1894 , he entrusted Miller with the management of the print shop. Two years later he was promoted to chairman of the board of directors and editor-in-chief of this newspaper and ran it for the next five decades.

Governor General Lord Athlone swore in Miller on February 27, 1945 as Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan. Since the government had closed the Government House a year earlier to save money, he made the Hotel Saskatchewan his official residence. One of his main tasks was to organize numerous victory parades after the end of World War II . Just 15 weeks after being sworn in, Miller died of a heart attack.
