Thomas Mohr (born October 17, 1961 in Neumünster ) is a German opera and concert singer ( tenor ) and singing professor.

biography

The singer Thomas Mohr completed his training at the Musikhochschule Lübeck , where he graduated and passed his concert exam with distinction. During his studies he won first prizes in the s'-Hertogenbosch competition , the VDMK competition in Berlin and the Walther Gruner competition in London. Further studies led him to Anna Reynolds . After permanent engagements in Bremen and Mannheim, he moved to the Ensemble of the Bonn Opera , where he met with important directors such as Giancarlo del Monaco, Jürgen Rose, Werner Schroeter , András Fricsay and Andreas Homoki to perform such important roles as Silvio, Albert, Conte di Luna, Lescaut and Germont to elaborate. But the singer also enjoyed great success as Eisenstein , Peter Besenbinder , Graf Almaviva and Papageno . In the concert field, he pays particular attention to Carl Orff'sCarmina burana ”, the “ German Requiem ” by Johannes Brahms and the “ War Requiem ” by Benjamin Britten .

Thomas Mohr has been working as a freelancer since 1997. His opera and concert activities have taken him to major concert halls around the world and to opera houses such as the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, the Zurich Opera House and the Dresden Semperoper . Thomas Mohr works with such well-known conductors as Kent Nagano , Nikolaus Harnoncourt , Gerd Albrecht , Lorin Maazel , Leonard Slatkin and Antonio Pappano as well as Christoph von Dohnányi , Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos , Bernhard Klee , Sir Georg Solti and Zubin Mehta . After his debut with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra in 2000, he was invited to the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the festival in Tanglewood / USA.

Thomas Mohr devotes himself intensively to the intermediate subject: in 2005/06 he celebrated great successes at the Cologne Opera as Idomeneo and as Siegmund ( Die Walküre ) in Robert Carsen's Ring des Nibelungen , in April 2006 he made his much-noticed debut as Parsifal at the Erfurt Theater . In the last season Thomas Mohr was in a new production of The Merry Widow in Cologne as Danilo and Eisenstein at the Bavarian State Opera to experience Munich, at the beginning of this season he sang the role of Max in a new production of Der Freischütz at the Cologne Opera , a role which he also took over in a new production at the Theater St. Gallen from spring 2008 .

Since the winter semester 2002/03, Thomas Mohr has been teaching as a full professor for singing at the University of the Arts in Bremen .

Under this abbreviation, the Klein Kummerfelder Kuhstall Concerts take place every summer on the Isemohr farm in Kleinkummerfeld near Neumünster. In addition to his professional activity, Thomas Mohr has been leading this multi-day festival since 1996. If the weather permits, the concerts take place as open-air performances . Many international performers have performed in styles from baroque to pop. Thomas Mohr also appears at the festival.

From baritone to tenor

Thomas Mohr's voice is very versatile. After years of performing as a baritone, he gave a concert at the KKKK under the name of the 2½ tenors , where he played the role of half tenor alongside two other tenors . As a result, he switched entirely to the tenor subject.
