Thomas Christopher Oberreiter (born July 3, 1966 in Linz ) is an Austrian diplomat . He has been Head of Cabinet of Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg since July 2020 , before that he was Head of Cabinet of Chancellor Brigitte Bierlein .

Between July 2017 and June 2019 he was ambassador to the Permanent Representation of Austria to the EU in Brussels for the Committee of Permanent Representatives I. Oberreiter was previously an envoy at the Permanent Representation from September 2015 to June 2017 . He was previously the Austrian ambassador to Luxembourg from 2011 to 2015 .

Life

Thomas Christopher Oberreiter, born in Linz, grew up in Hagenberg in the Mühlkreis . He received his doctorate in 1992 for Doctor of Law at the University of Vienna . In the same year he graduated from the Diplomatic Academy Vienna . He has three children.

Diplomatic career

Federal Ministry for Foreign Affairs

He had assignments in the Austrian Federal Ministry for Foreign Affairs as a speaker , first in the Middle East (1992), then in the EU department (1993 to 1994), then from 1995 to 1997 in the department for EU policy issues with participation in the Intergovernmental Conference for the Treaty of Amsterdam , which was passed on June 18, 1997, and Austria's accession to the EU .
