Due to Schäfer's initiative - and one and a half years of negotiations with the North Korean Foreign Ministry - it became possible that an extraordinary historical exhibition of the United Buddy Bears in Pyongyang took place in autumn 2008 . It was the first art exhibition that came from abroad, and at the same time the first that was freely accessible to everyone in North Korea.
