Thomas Wolter (born October 4, 1963 in Hamburg ) is a former football player and coach .

Player career

society

Thomas Wolter's career began in the youth of TuS Ottensen. He joined HEBC Hamburg in 1979 before moving to SV Werder Bremen in 1984 . The trained insurance salesman Wolter played in the Bundesliga for fourteen years for Werder Bremen. He completed 312 games and scored 12 goals for the North Germans. In 1984/85 he was part of the Bremen team for the first time. But with Günter Hermann , Norbert Meier , Benno Möhlmann and Wolfgang Sidka , the competition in midfield was still very high for the young player at the time. In his first year as a professional, Wolter only made three appearances. The defensive player made his debut on November 24, 1984 against Eintracht Braunschweig . In the 4-1 win he came on in the 82nd minute for Uwe Reinders .

The success in the European Cup Winners' Cup 1991/92 under coach Otto Rehhagel in the final on May 6, 1992 in Lisbon against AS Monaco , trained by Arsène Wenger , stands out in his successes with SV Werder.

National team

Wolter played an international match for the German national soccer team . For the friendly against Brazil on December 16, 1992, the defensive player was in the starting line-up of the DFB. In the 59th minute he was substituted for Michael Zorc .

Viktor Skripnik was his successor at Werder II . Since July 2013 Wolter has been in the newly created position of sporting director of the Werder Bremen performance center. In 2016, he took over the interim role of coach of the Werder Bremen U-23 team for three games in place of Alexander Nouri, who had moved up to the pros , before he was replaced by Florian Kohfeldt .
